Hey guys!
It's with a heavy heart that I must let you know that my time at this station has come to an end.
I first started mixing in January 2009, after being tested by Kaoz, in preparation for Australia Day that year... a tradition we continued through the following years after. I can't thank Lay Z enough for mentoring me and pushing me to get tested. After my first online set with fellow Australian DJ Lay Z (then known as DJ Auz), Norm showed us some listener graphs, pointed out a spike upwards and dubbed it the 'Australian Effect'. From that point on, we labelled ourselves the Australian Effect and brought an electro & trance show to Monday nights. Kaoz & Trim quickly jumped on board, followed later by Steven Tam and our show was extended to Wednesday nights as well.
The creation of Hypnotica (Channel 3) saw me shift from trance to techno for the Australian Effect on Clubzone and the creation of my trance show Epica on Hypnotica. Technical problems unfortunately killed Epica after 30 episodes and I'll always miss mixing and chatting with RoadRunner in the early hours of a German Saturday. Your support and your patience during the broadcasting problems are what prolonged Epica's life during that and I thank you as well as apologise for having to bring it to an end. Kaoz and Trim moved on but Steven Tam continued mixing with the Australian Effect... and Electroshock... and Sunday House Grooves... and every other show VirtualDJ Radio had going. The guy is amazing. If you haven't heard him yet, do yourself a favour and tune in! We also got our hands on the_blah... a show-stopping fidget & dutch electro DJ who can bring the house down with the energy levels in his sets.
We shifted the Australian Effect show to Friday's as Monday's were becoming too difficult with our schedules. This, coupled with a shift towards more techno & deep house and less trance on Hypnotica, again pushed me to another genre, slipping into a bouncy house/tech-house role for the Australian Effect. I also tried to rebirth Epica with a less uplifting and tech-y sound... Æ was the result however, I wasn't happy with the outcome and killed it after four installments.
Which brings us to today... Three and a bit years later; I've grown as a DJ and as a person, I've been through a number of experiences, met a lot of amazing people from this community, been involved in three shows (one of which is still going today), celebrated three festival-like Australia Day's with the station and found myself lost in the music week after week.... but now the station and I are moving in different directions and it's time I parted ways. I'll still be around the site and may post an occasional guest mix in the forum but I'll no longer be on the airwaves. A big thank you to everyone I've talked to during my time here, especially DJ Lay Z, the_blah, Steven Tam, RoadRunner, MissLou, Tazzy, Cat DeLuxe, AznAngel, MikMeg, Det0nate and Norm. See you round guys!
